  1. At the minute i am peeved.... at the antics of rent an idiot who are at Alder Hay hospital, i have every sympath for the parents but their supporters seem to forget about all the other sick children. The noise and upheavel they are causing affects staff visitors and most of all the children, the staff devote themselves to caring for all the patients and do not deserve the bad press from so called "friends of Alfie". Its only my opinion sorry if it offends anyone.

  3. LizzeM thanks I knew I was old, I used to go round all the stations regularly and knew most of them, after I retired I never went on a station for about 7 years, I then went on one where I served for 10 years and I didn't know a soul and they all looked young boys. When central closed all people who had served there where invited for a final photo, the only ones I knew were retired, they felt the same way. When all the retired ones had had a group photo taken all serving members were asked to join in the photo, some bright spark shouted out come on children on here with us.

  7. There was a time, not too long ago - certainly well within my lifetime - that people (infants, children, adolescents, adults, anyone) with terminal illnesses were allowed to pass away quietly and with dignity in as comfortable a way as possible without any fanfares of court proceedings and ill-founded demonstrations of false grief and sympathy. From what I have read about the case under consideration here, in common with most of the other similar recent cases, there is a very heavy tabloid newspaper involvement in keeping this story to the fore in the public eye. 8. I think this is the first major International competition I’ve had very little interest in. I love most sports but particularly athletics. As a family we’ve been to two Commonwealth Games. Edinburgh in 1986 where we were fortunate to be sitting next to the lovely David Hemery for 2 days. What a smashing man. Then we went to Victoria, BC in 1994, which was a real friendly affair. Just walking around the town or sitting in restaurants and bars we were able to chat to the athletes, our boys loved that trip. We had tickets for a couple of days at the 2012 Olympics too. Anyway, back to

  9. Did my apprenticeship at Players (Radford) so have been in all the ARP tunnels. Music while you work was broadcast to the factories from a big valve radio/amplifier deep underground, I think Les Bacon was the operator. Hopefully there is an image attached of one of the shelters.

  12. I just got into it with a bit of faffing around. It works with postimage.cc and postimage.org but I had to type 'postimage' in full rather than than postmg.org. I still prefer tinypic. Its easier to use. This is from Postimage.cc

  14. I just tried PI noon local time. It let me in ok. I hope its not going the PB route. It gets pretty tedious loading all my pics again. Funnily enough my PB pictures are still in place on NS. Funny how they dumped some and not others.

  15. It’s all about money. When sport was amateur it was conducted in a gentlemanly/ladylike manner. Now big bucks are involved people will cheat to win. It’s just as corrupt as commerce and politics now. (Shouldn’t have mentioned politics!)

  16. Don’t know about that one Catfan but there’s a South African in the women’s athletics team who I think is transgender, Male to female. She looks like and runs like a bloke, won by a mile the other day too. Takes you back to the old days when Russia had the very masculine looking female shot-putters.

  19. Been a bit busy last couple of days. Weds I went back to optician with my new specs. Very uncomfortable on the nose. A slight tweak helped, but they still need a bit of work. Yesterday ( Thurs) was another Cavern day out with Picko. The train in from St Helens to Liverpool was absolutely packed. Perfect storm of a previous cancellation, plus kids still off school and the first day of the Grand National Meet... Had a good play with my new camera in the Cav and a few pics may appear in the photo thread, but mostly I was playing with the video functions. Video is

  21. I wonder if we need to limit the number of pictures we post in case postimage has another sulk? I know it sounds ridiculous but is it worth considering? It may have a daily limit for this site... I'll join you for a drink (of fruit juice) Catfan....

  25. The thing I particularly like about these games is the inclusion of the para athletes as part of the mainstream games. I find it humbling to see these athletes striving to do their best despite their disabilities. Well done to the games organisers and to the athletes.
