  2. A message to everyone.... Life is fragile... don’t waste time and energy on things that are relatively unimportant. (But now, there is the problem of deciding on what is unimportant! We’ll each have our own thoughts on this)

  10. Enjoy every day the best way you can. Fill each waking moment. Then at the end of the day if you meet your maker, you can say "Well, had a bloody good day today !" Enjoy every day as if it were your last. One day it will be.

  14. To continue the unpleasantness of this week. I have recently been in contact (out of the blue) with a couple of former High Pavement pupils of my vintage. This prompted me to look back over emails. I found one from an old classmate who I'd last seen when we both attended the 'Last Rites' of the High Pavement site on Bestwood Estate.. before it was demolished. Bob and I hadn't seen each other since 1965.. but we enjoyed walking the corridors of the old school.. standing out on the playing fields on a balmy evening and taking a last look at that tremendous view back over towards

  15. I’ve been chatting to Col on Fb Messenger and he says it’s probably OK to tell you he’s improving as his heart rate has now stabilised - it had been varying between 20 and 100 beats/ minute. He’s awaiting the results of the blood test to see if he had had a heart attack. He is by himself as no -one else is allowed in .... COVID precautions I presume. Don’t know whether he’ll be kept in overnight to be monitored.

  18. I don't think such things as takeaway pizzas in boxes even existed in those days, young Trogg. They certainly didn't have such things on the menu in the Pytagoras Tea Room, as run by Al Gebra and his violin case-toting cronies. "Ya messa wi da cucumber sandwiches...we blowa ya head off!" Most of what Al Gebra said was a complete mystery to me...and still is but I preferred his Mafiaesque tones to the nerve shattering, Ian Paisley impersonations of Barmy Colleen. Perhaps she'd have liked a pizza in a box. I thought she was more deserving of a custard pie i

  25. On another tack... The above is a pic of the very common 'Garden Cross Spider'. (Araneus Diadematus) I remember as a kid I'd often come across these while out blackberrying in the fields. I didn't get too close to them.. which turns out to have been wise because I've since learned they can bite if you mess with them. I recall one day seeing a huge Bumble Bee caught in a web and battling with a Garden Cross Spider. It was fascinating to watch in a macabre sort of way, but my friends called me away so I don't know who won. Fast forward to now. There a

  35. Not wishing to be morbid but I have got Canine Care Card for Kai. It means if anything happens to me (although I don’t plan on going anywhere) Dogs Trust will have him and he will either be rehomed or live out his life with them. I had to nominate a relative who will contact them, after asking their permission obviously. They were a bit put out, not at being asked, but said they would have him anyway but circumstances do change and I now know he would be looked after either way. On a happier note he has bounced back after his dental work. He has worked out how to eat his lamb spaghetti,

  36. You are missing the point entirely RR. I've stated already that he had the option of planting stuff to hide the wall from his view.. right from day one. But.. he preferred to make an issue of it instead. Then he cheekily (and without my knowledge) screwed little trellises to the wall. I knew he was using the trellises. but not that he was screwing them to my wall. After doing that.. and then planting cotoneaster all along the trellis.. which he has to come around to my side and regularly cut... he finally decided to grow shrubs..so that now he can't see the bloody trellis or the lo
