  1. Yes Lizzie, a Patek is a 'proper' watch. It's just a pleasure to admire it on your wrist and to know it's probably worth more than you paid for it.
  2. Being completely bored have thrown myself into sorting all these old photos out,,,must be at least 300,,,many i had forgot about,,,but they have given me much pleasure,,,very Sentimental an certainly old,,,but not Tat''................have now framed about 70....the fascinating thing with some of them over 100 years old are the bits of writing on the back of em,,,family History....
  3. Mines a 'made in Mexico' Strat. It's a genuine Strat but about half the price of the 'made in USA' version. It's perfectly adequate for rank amateurs like me and totally indistinguishable apart from the label. The current price is around £550. I'll probably give it away to an enthusiastic budding guitarist in the village sometime. Although a pleasure to look at I'll never play it again. I still have a Yamaha 12 string, a Spanish style, an acoustic/electric Hofner, a 5string banjo, a ukulele, a set of bagpipes, a bugle and a harmonica - none of which I'm proficient on! The keyboard went to char
  4. There is going to be no photo of my haircut, my son cuts his own so my dear wife made me have mine cut by him. He has what I call the thug cut, so short he might as well shave it, I insisted I wanted it much longer. It was cut much to the evil pleasure of my dearest wife, it is shorter now than it has ever been, no problem now of social distancing, I will not be leaving the house for weeks.
  5. Beautiful photos. Was a pleasure to see them as they are now.
  6. Great views of the City, what a pleasure , the Theatre Royal looks beautiful, really will have to have a trip to the City , when ?
  7. Hi, my great grandfather was a violinist on the pleasure boats on the river Trent around 1890 I believe the boat he worked on the most was called Sunbeam, has anyone got any information of this era please Ray Denovellis
  8. Have you any pictures of your mgtc Phil there was this fellow years ago had one they nicknamed him the Earl of Bestwood and i had the pleasure of keeping it running he was in the young conservatives back in the day.
  9. Dear Friends (if I may be so bold as to address you thus on such a short acquaintanceship) I feel I owe you an apology. Whilst I began by correctly addressing the rare privilege and unalloyed pleasure of being brought up in Bilborough, I fear I strayed unthinkingly into the unchartered territory of EMEB showroom colleagues, N.E. Glam and FFGS (Forest Fields Grammar School to the uninitiated – and who wouldn’t want to be? – uninitiated I mean). Nevertheless, it would be helpful to know what are my Bilborough boundaries. Am I for instance allowed to stumble inadvert
  10. When you listen to a good well balanced system it is quite simply a joy. I realise some people have cloth ears and would not reap the pleasure from one. I have listened to some HiFi systems that quite literally took my breath away. There is a well known term ‘audio foolery’ when people will spent extortionate amounts on items said to improve the fidelity of your system. One company sells fuses to put in the plug of your equipment to improve the sound! You would not believe what they cost. The list of things you can buy to allegedly improve the sound is as endless as it is ridiculous. Here i
  11. Whilst searching through some old books and papers, I rediscovered my autograph book from 1964. It was a Christmas present that year from some friends. Looking through it, I see that it was signed by every teacher by whom I was taught at Berridge and by some who escaped that dubious pleasure! One lady whom I've long been interested in finding out about was Miss Smith who taught the final infant year. She taught me and my sister before me, along with countless others. A tough lady, Miss Smith. I've already researched Miss Smith, the infants' head teacher but didn't know
  12. Moviprep? I've heard of Movicol. It's a clear, sticky, liquid given for constipation. Never had any but know folks who have. Never mind, eh? They will have the pleasure of meeting you all over again!
  13. Our first ‘phone number when we lived in Woodthorpe was 262824. It was only one digit different from the nearby Home Brewery’s number. We had many misdialled calls asking ‘is that the Home Brewery’ and I always took pleasure in answering ‘I wish it was!’
  14. Seven years ago on this day, between the festivities of Christmas and New Year’s Eve, with nothing worth watching on the telly (much like tonight!) I was doing a bit of googling and came across Nottstalgia. In the intervening years I’ve met personally and on-line some lovely folk. Logging on to the forum has been mostly a pleasure but did become very addictive but I’ve kind of got over that in the past year or so ...... however rarely does a day go by when I haven’t logged on. Thank you all (especially the regulars) for making Nottstalgia part of my day.
  15. Fortunately for me, some might say, I lived with my grandparents who owned a cafe, so I had the pleasure of eating what i fancied. But i agree with you, how can people with large families afford to eat out with today's prices
  16. I'm just grateful that I have good enough health to enjoy any landscape. These last couple of weeks I done several Attenborough rides, Stoodley Pike walk and Gibsons Mill ( both North Yorkshire). And just as much pleasure walking over Sharp Hill to Wheatcrofts. I think my family has become my landscape, and vice versa. PS: in the fens, do you get the corncrakes in the evening? - an abiding memory of Suffolk/Norfolk, as I recall.
  17. The Albert was a legend with Vera I have seen her get a paddy on his knees clearing up a drink spillage We used to go over at lunch time when I worked at chapel bar garage The apprentice got kahlide on vodka When we took him back to work his legs seemed to be independent to his body so we put him the back of a van to sleep it off A bit later we heard a motorcycle strike up on rushing outside we were met with the site of a norton jubilee on its side going round and round on the foot rest with him on it smoke pouring from the wheel I dragged him off it Then later on I had the dubious pleasure
  18. My current car is silver. I'm starting to act my age now. No more pleasure for me.
  19. It's a known issue that the speakers in flat TVs can be pretty poor. Most if not all of them also 'fire' out of the back and are meant to reflect off the bachk wall. Some very new TV's do actually fire sound through the screen. Don't ask me how. Basically, you can connect almost any sort of sound system to the TV via the assorted 'outputs', on the back. Some devices can also connect via wi-fi or blutooth if the TV ( and owner) is suitably 'smart'. As Beekay correctly points out, even a small 'hi fi' system connected to the TV can help. Might also be worth exploring
  20. Memories, SG! My blazer lasted right the way through Manning too. Sleeves were rather short at the end. We, too, had a Grecian style tunic, for dance, complete with a silk corded belt! Petersham ribbon tie. D&P was the only outlet for those and they were very expensive. To this day, I can't tie a conventional tie. Summer dresses were made from fabric bought from the school. As I've said before, the day I left I took great pleasure in dumping the whole lot, ceremoniously, in the bin. On 4 September this year, it will be 50 years since I commenced my sentence at Manning. An an
  21. I had the ‘pleasure’ of working at D&P as a Saturday job. It was like Grace Brothers. Frank was the old guy, the suede head was the youngster, can’t remember his name. Then there was the lady who sat in the cash booth near the front door. Boys’ dept to the left, girls’ to the right. I was forever ever packing and unpacking shirts and jumpers in their cellophane packaging when mummies wanted their little angels to try on half a dozen different ones before deciding. Lunch and and tea breaks were in the rat-infested basement. I got got sacked
  22. Just the topic I was looking for. Many things do pee me off but watching a clip on tv should be available to everyone everywhere. The latest forbidden thing to do in Italy especially in sea resorts is not to go around with, men, bare chested, women in costumes or bikinis. Otherwise 250€ Fine. Other sindaco's have also introduced rules for the public such as smoking on the beaches and leaving litter, dogs only allowed on designated beaches. Sitting on the steps in Rome and the lists go on. The fines are pretty hefty, maybe not to everyone's pleasure but tourists do not respect the beautiful cou
  23. I love to read but it has to be a 'real' book I can't get any pleasure from staring at a screen. I was encouraged from a very young age to read, a visit to the library was a treat for me. My grandmother used to say I would read the label from a jam jar !!!.
  24. FLY. Books are good if you can see well, but with my eye condition, a Kindle/iPad is much better because the screen is bright. I still try occasionally to read a book or even a newspaper but it's not really a pleasure - in fact it's hard work!
  25. Just had a quick skim through the oldest magazine. What struck me immediately was the overall quality of the writing even on simple topics. Put our local rag of a newspaper to shame. It is written at a grade two level. I look forward to reading more for the simple pleasure of reading good stuff.
