  1. I've just looked at the forum rules. I was of the opinion that political discussion was outlawed here yet didn't see anything in the rules to confirm this. Not having a go at anyone. Just asking. People have strongly held views and conflict will without doubt ensue. The referendum was ill thought out and the campaigns on both sides very poor. Clearly the result they got was not the one they expected or wanted and had no plans for a Brexit. There lies the problem. Like it or not the public were told that out means out. No customs union etc. I can't recall being told of leaving with 'a

  2. Tough going Fly. Hope you are soon feeling better. Let us know how the shed goes in the shed thread. We'll all have to come over for a shed warming. Bit of a long way for me though. Beautiful day here. Clear blue sky and around seventy five. I cut the front lawn with the push mower rather than the ride on. That way I could exercise me back leg. Sloooow going but it looks like a golf course. I'm about done for! Feeling of satisfaction though.

  6. I thought this might interest old Bestwoododians it is a photo of a Street party on Leybourne Drive on VE day 1945 with the Bankings in the background. I found it on the Facebook page of "Nottingham Way Back When" posted on 23 April. There is over 100 comments on it, even I can remember some of the family names in the comments ,I wasn't born then, then memories it has brought back well worth of a visit to the page. Has anyone else photos of street parties where they lived.

  7. Margie maybe the girls would put the petals in the envelope with the "love letters" they send to the boys. Fly, set the table for another one, I'm just wondering what to eat tonight. That would just do me. Must make some steak pies I like them and its ages since I've earten one. The last time was in BHS restaurant years ago

  9. Hopefully, because people have finally understood that migration ( not Immigration) of EU citizens, to work here, is a reciprocal deal and there are large No.s of Brits doing the same all over the EU. Maybe some have also realised that there are no ethnically Black or Asian countries in the EU, so all those 'obvious' immigrants ( Or were they born here?) are nothing to do with the EU. It is plainly obvious that many voted 'Leave' because they were conned into believing that all of their ills, from homelessness, to NHS issues, to unemployment etc.etc., were a result of EU membership

  11. A lot of people making good points here and no animosity or acrimony. In other words, a 'grown up' discussion. I've always thought we could do it. and we've proved it a couple of times elsewhere on here recently. Part of the problem with 'Politics' is that there is no real definition in 'da rules' of the scope of what constitutes 'politics'. Most people seem to think in terms of 'Party Politics', and I guess it's true that getting into 'Yaa Boo' left v right slanging matches with the left accusing everyone on the right of 'fascism', and the right describing everyone on the left

  12. If we had the vote today without doubt it would be now far bigger than 51.9% we all knew what we voted for that was out, we wasn't asking for any deals.

  13. Nice to see normal people having a reasonable discussion about such a touchy subject. Pity it doesnt extend to our mps in the London bubble. Windy today again can hear it whistling round the chimney. Could be a pj/watch c**p on tv day I think. At least I don’t have to brave the weather to get the dreaded ciggies (I wish). Treated myself to an acer plant yesterday, liked the red foliage, might bring in it today as it is getting battered by the wind a bit. I can kill plants off quick enough without help from the weather.

  14. Certainly there was a proportion that voted out for this reason. This being seen as racist has been jumped on and highlighted and used to justify an out vote as being just wrong and has probably promoted the racist leaver to a status not warranted. I believe that the proportion that did vote for this reason was relatively small and many people wanted to leave for perfectly 'honourable' reasons.

  15. Sorry had a referendum, one side won, not trying to be rude or argumentative but get over it. You can’t keep having votes until you get the result you want (which is what usually happens with other eu referendum votes). Wasn’t the result people expected but people from where I was living finally had a voice. Please don’t take offence at this none meant.

  18. I once worked for a company who's union had a vote on something or other, didn't go the unions way so they left it a couple of weeks and had another vote saying the vote was undecided, union got more votes but not enough so they left it for a couple of weeks and had another vote saying the previous vote was undecided, this time the union got the vote they wanted, funnily enough it was decided the vote was alright, the reason they got the vote they wanted was because people got fed up with voting that they no longer bothered to vote thus giving the union they vote they wanted, does that ring any bel

  21. If they were well younger than teenagers, I would say they were going to make 'perfume' ... mixing them with water. When I used to use rose petals, it used to smell vile , though! They probably just thought they were so pretty, they didn't want to leave them on the road. Later, I expect they'd just throw them over some boys to annoy them?

  22. Thanks for the great photo of the hall and its organ pipes radfordred. Loppylugs I agree with you about the modern consoles being movable. In some churches that have had their organ upgraded a movable console is put in complete with all the stops, manuals and pedals. These can have an on-board computer facility so the organist can set their stops in advance and just press a button for each new piece. It also allows the Director of Music to allocate a channel to visiting organists so everyone does not get into a muddle! I am not an organist, our son is. When I see him play using two hands, two

  23. Thank you Mi Ducks. I've still got the Lurgy so not doing much. Hubbs told me he had to cancel a dinner booking for 16 at Cosmos yesterday, for today (A prebooked surprise for me) The two of us went for a ride to Bridgnorth and had fish and chips by the Severn instead. Just collapsed on the sofa with a cuppa and a bar of Cadburys now. What more could a gel ask for.

Afraid mine will have to stay about the size it is now about two & a half feet don’t have a big enough garden for anything bigger. They also had the one you have DJ, but the leaves were just green so I presumed they didn’t change, will have another look at them when I go back to supermarket. I have never bought plants for outside before, my last house had a paved back garden and my husband thought it was a waste of money buying them, the front was open plan which the Council owned and looked after (not that well) so t

  30. I agree. The original referendum was extremely dim, just like its originator. The ramifications and the unavoidable process of leaving were simply 'glossed over' and the so called 'benefits' of leaving have proven to be fantasies.. Also, many people seemed to be expecting a Leave result to solve all kinds of problems which are nothing to do with the EU. In light of what many people have discovered in the interverning years, and given that we remain deadlocked, a second referendum makes the most sense. To argue that a second referendum is undemocratic, is very silly. On that basis, we s

  45. As I look at it from outside, I don't think the British had everything explained to them. I think the majority thought it would be an end to immigration. I won't go into a political argument because the more I read about it the more confused I get, and I think that goes for the majority. I'm getting a bit fed up people asking me about it and laughing

  47. I'm coming round to the idea of a rerun and it seems to me to the biggest objectors to one are the leavers. They have a point, we had a referendum and they won but it's now clear that the outcome and all the ramifications were not known. There has been sharp practice on both sides, lies and laws broken. It's a bloody disgrace that we are in this situation.

  48. Most of us are angry and annoyed about the Brexit situation and the country is divided as much as Parliament. Without getting into politics I think that the referendum should be rerun and decided on a decisive majority, say two thirds. With the way that the referendum was set up last time the vote could have gone either way, theoretically on just one vote.

I doubt I have the flexibility to do a diy job now as I’m no longer able to assume the lotus position. At one time, as a party trick, I could put a leg round the back of my neck. I broke wind the last time I tried that though - much to the amusement of the dinner party guests!
