  1. Please be advised that all employees planning to dash through the snow in a one-horse open sleigh, going over the fields and laughing all the way are required to undergo a Risk Assessment addressing the safety of open sleighs. The assessment must also consider whether it is appropriate to use only one horse for such a venture, particularly where there are multiple passengers. Please note that permission must also be obtained in writing from landowners before their fields may be entered. To avoid offending those not participating in celebrations, we request that laughter is moderate only and not

  4. As threatened, just returned from my walk in to Bulwell & back again. Set off at a nice gentle pace with Mrs C, stopped a few times to rest my legs, browsed one or two charity shops & finished in the Salvation Army cafe for a cup of tea. Wasn't easy but very satisfied with mesen, first walk in nearly 3 months ! So my goal to walk to Bulwell before Christmas is realised. Christmas is early this year ! PTL. My lad calling around later to take me & Mrs C to see her parents in Bilsthorpe & deliver their festive goodies, not seen them in many months either.

  5. You seem very low down. Second go at a ride to Wilko in the morning. Currently getting aches of the upper leg muscles and I am not very good at getting up hills (yet). Not ridden a bike for over 40 years so what should I expect really! Unfortunately I have a good hill to negotiate in both directions. Only downside to travelling on a bike around these parts.

  10. Went to the dentist this morning to get my tooth filled, never felt a thing ! Going for a trial walk tomorrow hopefully to Bulwell. Will take my walker to hang on to & keep taking a rest to let my legs recover. I reckon about four "Stints" should do it, at least if I make it I can say I walked to Bulwell before Christmas as I planned to !

  19. It's the biggest waste of taxpayers money, apart from the alterations to slab square. Maybe the next bright idea the council will come up with will be along the lines of, knock down Vic center and build a train station. Oops, hope I haven't given them any ideas...

  25. My husband has just had new lenses in both eyes, a similar operation to cataract surgery, but he didn’t have evidence of cataracts. He had to go private because he hadn’t got cataracts, and it cost a lot of money but he was so fed up with wearing contact lenses (which he struggled to get in and out) and specs. All seems to be good, it’s 4 weeks since the second eye was done, and he’s happy with the outcome.

  26. Years ago, when I grew much of my own veg, I had at this time of the year leeks, parsnips, perpetual spinach and sprouts. A good crop too, as I mixed all my chicken pooh into the compost heap.

  28. Phil, there are still NHS dental practices in many areas. I appreciate that you still pay a nominal fee for chech ups, then any necessary treatment on top, which can up the price a bit, but it's not bad. As a senior citizen though, I think check ups should be free.

  29. Yes, I always think it's an important turning point in the year. I appreciate that January and February can be bad, but it's just a mental thing that spurs me on positively towards spring. Ive still got three bags of various daffodils to set, but have already got azalea, hebe's and jasmine in bloom. Along with acers, and various other shrubs with many buds on. As for my rhododendrons, we I can envisage them being out for the New Year.

  32. Compo there are several different LEDs, I use the 'bright white' ones in the house and find that 8 watt will easily do what a 60 watt ordinary incandescent bulb will do.

I keep telling myself that I'm going to retire soon, but there's too many things I have to do - so many commitments. But actually, I reckon once you stop doing stuff, then it isn't good for you... it's the start of the slow decline. Lol

  39. I started at Greenwood in 58 in the G stream after the first year Mr Bonner was our form teacher a strict but fair man enjoyed his teaching of physics I remember Mr Mcclennan(spelling) for maths., gave me a good knowledge of the subject. Cannot remember the name of the history teacher but he was in the wrong profession could not control a class so very little learnt there. I had to leave in 62 so did not stay on for O levels regretted it for rest of my life, but enjoyed my time there with the exception of cross country my legs were designed for walking.

  40. At Last a thread about Greenwood School. I attended Greenwood Bilateral fro 1958 till 1962. Headmaster at the time was Mr Skilbeck a strict disciplinarian always wore a black gown and was always a visible presence around all areas of the school I suspect a lot of todays head teachers could learn a lot from his style its called management by walking about. Other teachers were Joe Morley, Taffy Broom, Mike Graham (played rugby for Nott's RFC as did Phil Barwick ) I remember some very happy days there and lots of good friends from the Sneinton area. I married a local girl from Baden Powell Road
