  1. I bought a second hand ladies fur jacket off Sneinton Market around the mid 60's in my hippie days. Cheesecloth shirt and purple flared cords with Paisley inserts. No wonder dad cringed when I went out.

  11. Sorry, I suppose this could go under "Pet Hates" bit I think it might have a lot of mileage in it! I hate it when supermarkets "hide" a full priced article in with loads of offers! I was in a suprmarket the other day with the grandkids buying chocolate - what else are grandparents for. They had a "Buy 3 for £1.20" deal, so, mouth watering, I thought "Ooh, one for me!" We chose our Galaxy bar, and Whisper and I had a Mars bar. Got to the checkout - no offer. Went back to the shelf which was full of these "3 for £1.20" bars - except for the Mars bar, right in the middle, which was part of a se

  17. Not a knock on the area at all Michael but unfortunately I think many who live in the area would cite the various problems that Bilborough has these days. It's not just a couple of people and it's not just Bilborough. Yes, 'posh' areas as you term them have crime and violence too - off course they do - markedly less of it though.

But Brenda may sound italian to you because you've known me for so long. There is a name in italian which is similar Wanda ( Vanda) Many english names are popular here but the emphasis on certain letters change the name completely. Nicola is a masculine name pronounced NicOla emphasis on O. AlicE emphasis on E (female). Ida (Eeda) A lot of masculine names translated are very old names but quite popular here. 31. My mum had a short fur jacket to wear when she got married. I still have it, all carefully wrapped. I did wear it a few times way back in the times when it was not politically incorrect. It kept me very warm! I felt OK about it because the animals died long before I was born and the mammal population balance was very different in those times. Now it is a part of my social history. There is a Galerie Lafayette in Paris. An amazing store. I did not see fur coats when we went there but I did manage to try on clothes and do all the simple conversation using my recollection of GCE French

  33. Until I got married and left Nottingham my home was in Bilborough and I was happy there. Reading posts about what it is like there now I could not go back. It would wreck happy memories. Thinking of other parts of the city, there have been so many changes I would find it hard to make a judgement without extensive research. This thread has really made me think! Some posts mention locations in Nottinghamshire, but I am not familiar with the county. This is all rather sad when I feel that Nottingham is still my home town. Nottstalgia does a great job in keeping me in touch.

  34. These and similar villages are some of my favourite places in Nottinghamshire. I probably wouldn't feel a need to go that far away from the city, particularly as I work there. The place I would certainly choose would be Woodborough, or possibly Lambley. There are problems with floods these days but aside from that they're great for what I want out of life, in Nottingham anyway. I have to be honest and say there are vast swathes of Nottingham I wouldn't touch with a barge pole these days though. Things are not what they were.

  36. That's where I am. Only had to walk back from Nottingham once and that was in the 60's when the fog was so thick that no transport was moving. Had to keep stopping in pubs along the way for stiff whiskeys to keep warm!

  45. There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in (y)our philosophy. (Hamlet) I would like to think there are large creatures living in deep lochs - there would probably be more than one! I don't think they would be mystical, magical creatures either, as some people say. Remember when it was thought that the coelacanth fish became extinct at the time of the dinosaurs, and then a live one was discovered in 1938 (and others since). I try and keep an open mind on these things....... and wouldn't it be exciting if there was definite proof one day!
